Align Axis Titles with Hidden Scales in Tableau Desktop

Publish Date: May 28, 2026
Prerequisite(s)
A worksheet with multiple measures in a single view.
Task

When multiple measures are added to the same view, and some axes have visible scales while others do not, narrowing the axis header height causes the axis titles to become misaligned.

For example, consider a view like the one below:

When the axis header height is narrowed and Ticks for one measure (e.g., Sales) is set to None from Edit Axis dialog, the axis title for that measure shifts downward and becomes misaligned with the other axis title (e.g., Profit).

How can we ensure axis titles remain consistently aligned when a view contains a mix of visible and hidden axis scales in Tableau Desktop?

Steps

To maintain layout consistency, do not hide the axis scale from Edit Axis dialog. Instead, use the following steps to hide the scale markings through formatting.

  1. Right-click the axis header of the measure for which you want to hide the tick marks and select Format.
  2. From the Format pane on the left, navigate to the Axis tab. Under the Scale section, click Ticks and select None.
  3. In the same Axis tab under Scale, click Numbers and select Custom.
  4. In the Format field, enter the following custom code to make labels invisible:
    " ";" ";" "
