Configure Salesforce ECAs for Data Cloud on Tableau Server

Publish Date: Feb 9, 2026
Task

Salesforce is transitioning OAuth configurations from Connected Apps to External Client Apps (ECAs) as part of its security and architecture improvements. This migration affects how external applications, such as Tableau Server, authenticate and connect to Salesforce Data Cloud (Data 360).

Timeline:

  • Winter'26 Release (Release 258): New Connected App creation is disabled by default.

  • End of 2025: External Client Apps become the standard method for OAuth configuration.

  • End of 2026: Support for Connected Apps is scheduled to end.

Current Status (January 2026): Organizations should use External Client Apps for all new OAuth implementations.

Steps
The following steps outline the procedure for using External Client Apps (ECAs) with Tableau Server (version 2023.3 and later).

Please apply the same logic to the another sections:

Step 1: Create External Client Apps in Salesforce

  1. Sign in to your Salesforce.com developer account, click your user name in the upper-right, and then select Setup.
  2. In the left navigation column, under Apps, select App Manager.
  3. In the Lightning Experience App Manager, click New External Client App.
  4. In the External Client App Manager, configure required information as described in the online help "Connect Tableau Server to the Salesforce Data Cloud".
  5. Click Create.
  6. After you create the app, select the Settings tab.
  7. Check the Consumer Key  and Secret in the OAuth Settings.

Complete the remaining steps by following Step 2 of the online help, "Connect Tableau Server to the Salesforce Data Cloud."
