Experience Cloud: Salesforce CDN Migration to Cloudflare — Custom Domain Migration: Methods and Considerations

Date de publication: Apr 1, 2026
Description

This article explains the Salesforce CDN migration from Akamai to Cloudflare, covering both the automatic transition performed by Salesforce and the manual migration option that allows you to switch your custom domains at your convenience.
Note: This knowledge is applicable only if the "Domain Configuration Option" for your custom domain is "Serve the domain with the Salesforce Content Delivery Network (CDN)." For all other options, Salesforce CDN is not in use, and this article is not relevant.

Automatic vs. Manual Migration Comparison

The differences between automatic and manual migration are as follows:

Timing

Automatic Migration: Determined by Salesforce; dates cannot be specified. Manual Migration: Can be performed at any time by the user.

Differences

Automatic Migration: No manual effort required. Manual Migration: You can schedule the migration for your desired time slot or conduct pre-verification in a Sandbox.

  • To perform Sandbox verification without disrupting an active production custom domain, a dedicated custom domain (subdomains allowed) must be prepared for testing purposes.
  • When operating a custom domain (e.g., faq.example.com), it is recommended to set up a dedicated domain like test.example.com for Sandbox testing.

Notifications

Automatic Migration: Salesforce admins are notified via email of the scheduled date/time prior to migration. Manual Migration: Can be performed at your convenience, independent of the automatic schedule. You will be notified by email when "Activation" is ready to be triggered.

Required Action

Automatic Migration: None. Manual Migration: Requires checking the domain settings and clicking Activate.

Résolution

To manually migrate to the Cloudflare CDN, perform the following steps:

  1. From the Gear Icon, go to Setup > Quick Find and search for "Domains," then select "Domains."
  2. Click Edit next to the target custom domain name.
  3. Select "Use the Cloudflare® CDN to serve this domain" checkbox and click Save.
  4. Wait for the email notification to be sent to the administrator.
  5. Return to the Domains setup page and click the Activate link once it becomes active.

Note: It may take up to 24 hours for the notification email to be sent. You can still complete the migration if "Activate" is enabled in the Domain Setup, even without receiving the email notification.

Ressources supplémentaires

You can still complete the migration if 'Activate' is enabled in the Domain Setup, even without the email notification.

Options to Serve a Custom Domain

Note: This article is applicable only if your custom domain is configured to "Serve the domain with the Salesforce Content Delivery Network (CDN)" as described in the help topic above.
