Snowflake Key Pair Authentication Not Retained

Publish Date: Apr 7, 2026
Description

When using Snowflake key-pair authentication, the credentials may not remain embedded in the connection. This can result in connection or authentication issues even after configuring the key-pair.

Cause: Including “https” in the Snowflake hostname prevents proper key embedding during authentication.

Resolution

Follow the steps below to resolve the issue:

  1. Delete the existing key-pair from:
My Account Settings → Saved Credentials for Data Sources → Snowflake

  2. Re-add the key-pair credentials.

  3. Ensure that the Snowflake hostname does not include “https” when entering it.

  4. Test the connection after updating the hostname to confirm that the key is embedded correctly.
