Knowledge Object Not Displayed as Target for Case Quick Action

Publish Date: Apr 13, 2026
Description

This article explains why Knowledge is missing from the target object list when creating a Case quick action, and how to resolve it.

Resolution

To create a custom quick action (Action Type: "Create a Record") on the Case object to create Knowledge articles, a "Lookup Relationship" field pointing to Case must exist on the Knowledge object.

Please follow these steps to add the required field to the Knowledge object:

[Resolution Steps]

  1. From Setup, click Object Manager.
  2. Select Knowledge.
  3. Click Fields & Relationships, then click New.
  4. Select Lookup Relationship as the Data Type and click Next.
  5. Select Case as the Related To object and click Next.
  6. Enter the Field Label and Field Name (e.g., Case), then click Next.
  7. Set the field-level security for the appropriate profiles and click Next.
  8. Select the page layouts that should include this field and click Next.
  9. Confirm the related list settings and click Save.

Once the field is created, you will be able to select "Knowledge" as the target object when creating a new quick action on the Case object.
