Marketing Cloud Next-SMS Alpha numeric codes opt out options

Publiceringsdatum: Apr 30, 2026
Beskrivning

When using an Alphanumeric Sender code, recipients cannot reply directly to the message because the "sender" is a brand name (e.g., ABCDEF) rather than a numeric phone number. Moreover Alphanumeric sender codes supports one-way communication only. This prevents using standard  OPT OUT Keywords like "STOP". To maintain compliance and a positive user experience, businesses must provide alternative opt-out methods such as hosted preference centers or secondary numeric codes like short or long codes.

Lösning

To ensure a compliant and user-friendly messaging program, use one of the following two primary methods:

1. Preference or Unsubscribe Link (Recommended)

This is considered the Best Practice for Alphanumeric sender codes. It provides a seamless transition for the user and allows for more granular control over communication.

  • How it works: Include a shortened, trackable URL at the end of the message (e.g., brand.co/stop). Or use the preference center merge field in the SMS.

2. "Text to Another Code" (Alternative Workaround)

If you have a secondary numeric code (Short Code or Long Code) in Marketing Cloud Next, you can direct users to that specific number to unsubscribe.

  • How it works: Include instructional text such as: "To stop, text STOP to +XX XXXX  XXXXX" or "Text STOP to XXXXX."

  • Considerations:This requires the user to manually open a new message thread and type in a number, which is less convenient than a link.
