Error Icon Placement Difference Between Tableau Desktop and Web Authoring

Description

When editing a Tableau workbook, an error occurs if a field used in the workbook is missing from the connected data source. A red exclamation mark (!) marks the invalid field. Its location varies by editing environment.

Tableau Desktop

  • The red exclamation mark (!) appears to the right of the field name in the Data pane.
     

Web Authoring (Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server)

  • The red exclamation mark (!) appears to the left of the field name in the Data pane.
     
Resolution

This behavior is a product UI specification. The underlying cause of the red exclamation mark is a missing field and is the same across platforms.
