Error when trying to open a published workbook and extracts

Description

The user intermittently encounters an error message when trying to open or download a workbook published to Tableau Cloud.

The error message states :

Error

'Reconnect to xx_xx_xxx_metrics_expanded_agent_level?'.

Cause:

Resolution

1. Ensure you are using the latest version of Tableau Desktop that matches the Tableau Cloud version. For example, if Tableau Cloud is on version 2026.1, update Tableau Desktop to the same version.

2. Launch Tableau Desktop using the command line with the parameter:

tableau.exe -DOverride=VizDataServiceDesktopClientEnable:off.

3. If the issue persists, consider using one of the following workarounds: change the data source from a published data source to local files, use a local copy of the connection, or modify the calculation field to use only one parameter.
