Marketing Cloud Engagement | FAQ: Adding and Updating LINE Contacts via GroupConnect Import (Without Webhook)

Fecha de publicación: May 25, 2026
Descripción

In Marketing Cloud Engagement's GroupConnect, the GroupConnect Import feature is provided as a means to link a LINE UID (AddressID) with a ContactKey.

Typically, when a Webhook is configured, "Follow" and "Block" statuses are automatically synced. However, in cases where a Webhook is not used, this information is not reflected in real-time. Therefore, operational considerations such as managing data freshness and filtering targets (e.g., periodic flag updates) prior to message distribution become critical.

Recommendation: We strongly recommend using Webhooks as a standard practice. GroupConnect Import should primarily be used when adding existing LINE friends to a new Business Unit (BU) or when migrating ContactKeys from the default GUID format to a known identifier.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: How can I link a LINE UID to an existing contact in an environment without a Webhook?
A1: Use the GroupConnect Import feature. You can link a ContactKey to a LINE UID by executing an import file that includes the ContactKey, AddressID (LINE UID), ChannelID (LINE Channel ID), and at least one of the following: DisplayName, PictureURL, or StatusMessage.

  • For New Additions: Select "Add Only" as the Import Type.

  • For Updates (Overwrite): Select "Update Only" as the Import Type.

For detailed steps, please refer to "Linking LINE UIDs with Contact Keys Using GroupConnect Import."

Q2: What are the mandatory fields for a GroupConnect Import file?
A2: The three mandatory fields are ContactKey, AddressID, and ChannelID.

Additionally, at least one of the attribute fields (DisplayName, PictureURL, or StatusMessage) must contain a value.

Note 1: If you are not using a Webhook and cannot retrieve the user's display name or image URL, it is recommended to enter a placeholder value (e.g., "Guest") in one of these fields, as it will not affect the delivery itself.

Note 2: For detailed specifications on ContactKey and AddressID, including how to verify the ChannelID, please refer to "Marketing Cloud Engagement | ContactKey and AddressID in GroupConnect (LINE) Import"

Q3: If I don't use a Webhook, what happens to messages sent to users who have blocked the account?
A3: The "Block" status will not be reflected in Marketing Cloud Engagement.

Since "Block" or "Unfriend" events are not synced without a Webhook, imported records will continue to be managed as "Active Contacts" in the system. Consequently, delivery requests will still be sent to blocked users (though they will not reach the user's device), and Super Messages will be consumed.

Reference: Webhook configuration is required to reflect LINE "Follow" and "Block" events in Marketing Cloud in real-time.

Q4: Can I update the Block status using GroupConnect Import?
A4: No. GroupConnect Import is strictly a feature for managing the mapping between ContactKeys and LINE UIDs; it cannot be used to update statuses such as "Block." Webhook configuration is mandatory for status synchronization. If operating without a Webhook, you must design a manual workflow. This typically involves including a custom "Friend Status" flag in your periodic data imports and using that flag to filter your target Data Extension before sending.

Reference: You can check the registration status of GroupConnect contacts via the Data View: _MobileLineAddressContactSubscriptionView.
