By default, every business unit in Marketing Cloud Engagement possesses a separate SFTP directory. Consequently, each business unit has distinct SFTP user accounts, and logging in with these accounts grants access to files and folders specific to that particular business unit.
Upon request, Salesforce Support can configure a business unit's SFTP directory to match that of a different business unit, enabling multiple business units to share access to the same SFTP directory, files, and folders.
For example, if you have an Enterprise business unit and a Child business unit, you may want to have the child business unit use the same SFTP directory as the Enterprise business unit. This allows you to download/upload files to the same SFTP directory and have both business units access them.
To request this change, have a Designated Contact on your account create a Support Case on the Salesforce Help and Training Portal requesting that the SFTP directory of MID 12345 be set to use the SFTP directory of MID 45678.
Important: If making this change after implementing automations or processes that use your SFTP, they will be impacted. Ensure any automations or third-party tools are updated accordingly to use the appropriate folders and file names when requesting these changes.
Important: Once making this change, all SFTP users will be managed in the original business unit where the SFTP directory exists. Given the example above, this would be the Enterprise business unit. Creating additional SFTP users in business units where they no longer use their own SFTP directory will erase your custom configuration and will cause the business unit to have its own SFTP directory again.
