What is Provided?

The following products are available free-of-charge, unless indicated as discounted, for those eligible for the Tableau for Teaching program. Instructors can request a license through our Tableau for Teaching website. Details on how this process works is available through the Tableau for Teaching: Getting Access to Tableau article.

  • Software
    • Tableau Desktop: The primary software for analysis. Connect to any data in just a few clicks and explore new perspectives with powerful analytics. Create live visualizations and interactive dashboards. Desktop is available for individual and course software requests. This software is recommended for classes teaching data analytics. Note: This product will not work on Chromebook, Linux, iPad, etc. If your students are using these types of devices you should request a Tableau Cloud site.
    • Tableau Prep Builder: Prep Builder transforms data for analysis. You can combine and clean data and operationalize a data flow. Once data has been cleaned, it can be connected to Tableau Desktop for analysis. Prep Builder is available for individual and course software requests. This software is recommended for classes teaching data cleaning and preparation for analysis.
    • Tableau Cloud: A fully hosted, cloud-based, enterprise-grade version of Tableau. Using Tableau Cloud, students can explore data sets and create visualizations directly on the web, making this ideal for classes using Chromebook or iPad. Along with access to a cloud-based version of Tableau products, students can download a copy of Tableau Desktop and Tableau Prep Builder to work offline on their own machines. This is recommended for classes using secure data that needs to be protected or for K-12 users that have data collection concerns. Note: This product requires some level of configuration to get started and yearly maintenance. Please review Tableau for Teaching: Tableau Cloud for additional information.
    • Tableau Public: A free data visualization publishing platform that empowers anyone to see, explore, understand, and publicly share workbooks online — only publicly available data should be shared on this platform. The Public platform gives students an opportunity to use Tableau after graduation with its own version of Tableau Desktop.
