Financial Services Cloud: Data Processing Engine run fails with USER_ERROR_ACCESS_MISSING or DATA_SYNC_ERROR

Publish Date: May 24, 2026
Description

This article explains why a Data Processing Engine (DPE) run fails with USER_ERROR_ACCESS_MISSING or DATA_SYNC_ERROR after the Data Pipelines Base User permission set has been assigned, and how to resolve each cause.

Error Code: SYSTEM_ERROR Error Type: DATA_SYNC_ERROR." Trigger conditions are:

  1. Running or activating a DPE definition where Data Pipelines is not yet enabled in Setup
  2. Running a DPE under the Analytics Cloud Integration User without the Data Pipelines Base User permission set and license
  3. Running a DPE that references a CRM Analytics sync object whose synced field set has become empty between runs.

Affected products: Financial Services Cloud, Nonprofit Cloud (NPC), Net Zero Cloud, and Life Sciences Cloud on Enterprise, Unlimited, and Developer Editions.

Resolution

Cause 1: Data Pipelines feature is not turned on in Setup

  1. Confirm the org has the Data Pipelines Base permission set license. Navigate to Setup > Company Information and verify a non-zero count for Data Pipelines Base User in the Permission Set License section. If the license is absent, contact your Account Executive to provision the Data Pipelines Base add-on.
  2. Navigate to Setup > Users > Permission Sets and assign the Data Pipelines Base User permission set to your admin user AND to the Analytics Cloud Integration User.
  3. Navigate to Setup > Users > Permission Sets Licenses and verify the Data Pipelines Base User permission set to your admin user AND to the Analytics Cloud Integration User.
  4. Log out and log back in as the admin user (the Setup node is permission-gated and requires a fresh session).
  5. In Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Data Pipelines, then select Data Pipelines > Get Started.
  6. Set Enable Data Pipelines to On and refresh the page.

Cause 2: Cloned DPE fails to activate due to integration user field access (Financial Services Cloud)

  1. Navigate to Setup > Quick Find > Group Membership Settings and turn on Group Membership.
  2. Assign the Financial Services Cloud Extension permission set AND permission set license to the Analytics Cloud Integration User and to the running admin user.
  3. Re-open the DPE definition and click Activate.

Cause 3: DATA_SYNC_ERROR "You can't remove all fields from sync for an object"

  1. Navigate to Setup > Quick Find > Analytics > Data Manager (CRM Analytics Data Manager).
  2. Open the Connect tab and locate the Salesforce Local connector and the source object referenced by the failing DPE (for example, Account [Account] or Financial Account [FinServ__FinancialAccount__c]).
  3. If the object shows zero synced fields, click the object row, then click Select Fields and re-add at least one field that the DPE reads. Save the object configuration.
  4. If the object is no longer required by the DPE, click the action menu on the object row and select Disconnect — do not leave it connected with zero fields.
  5. From Data Manager, run the connector to sync the object, then return to the DPE definition and click Run.

Cause 4: Out-of-the-box managed DPE template won't run

  1. Navigate to Setup > Quick Find > Data Processing Engine.
  2. Locate the standard template (for example, Household Financial Account Summary or Calculate Subsidiary Emissions Inventory), click the row action menu, and select Save As.
  3. Enter a unique Name and API Name, then save.
  4. Open the cloned definition and click Activate. Standard managed templates cannot be run directly — only the cloned, activated copy executes.

Verification

Confirm the issue is resolved by re-running the failing DPE definition from Setup > Data Processing Engine > [Definition Name] > Run, and verifying the run status changes to Successful with no USER_ERROR_ACCESS_MISSING or DATA_SYNC_ERROR entry in the run history.
