Education Cloud: CRM Analytics for Education Admin permission set is not available after enabling CRM Analytics

Description

After enabling CRM Analytics in an Education Cloud org, the "CRM Analytics for Education Admin" permission set is not available to assign, and the Education Analytics guided setup step "Assign Administrator Permissions" remains marked as incomplete. Assigning the generic "CRM Analytics Template Administration Included" permission set does not resolve this — it is not equivalent and does not satisfy the Education Analytics prerequisite.

Root cause: The Education-specific CRM Analytics permission set licenses ("CRM Analytics for Education Admin" and "CRM Analytics for Education") are not provisioned in the org. Enabling the CRM Analytics platform feature provisions the general analytics capability but does not automatically provision Education-specific PSLs. These must be provisioned by the Account Executive under the org's existing Education Cloud entitlement.

Symptoms:

  • "CRM Analytics for Education Admin" permission set is absent from the Permission Sets list in Setup
  • The PSL appears in Company Information but with Status = Disabled or Total Licenses = 0
  • Attempting to assign it returns: "All the CRM Analytics for Education permission set licenses are in use" (if zero licenses are available)
  • The "Assign Administrator Permissions" step in Education Analytics setup remains incomplete after assigning the generic "CRM Analytics Template Administration Included" permission set

Affected configuration:

  • Editions: Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer Editions with Education Cloud
  • Condition: CRM Analytics enabled but Education-specific PSLs not provisioned
Prerequisite(s)
  • Education Cloud license (Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, or Developer Edition)
  • CRM Analytics enabled in Setup
  • "CRM Analytics for Education Admin" PSL provisioned by the Account Executive (contact AE if missing)
  • System Administrator profile
  • Education Cloud Full Access PSL assigned to the admin user
Resolution

Follow these steps in order. The Education-specific permission set licenses must be provisioned to the org before any permission set assignment will succeed.

Step 1: Confirm whether the Education-specific PSL is provisioned

  1. Navigate to Setup > Company Information. Scroll to the Permission Set Licenses related list and look for CRM Analytics for Education Admin and CRM Analytics for Education. Record the Total Licenses and Used Licenses values.

Cause 1: The Education-specific PSL is not provisioned

  1. If "CRM Analytics for Education Admin" does not appear in the Permission Set Licenses list, or appears with Status = Disabled, the PSL has not been provisioned. Salesforce Support cannot provision licenses.
  2. Contact your Salesforce Account Executive and request that the "CRM Analytics for Education Admin" and "CRM Analytics for Education" PSLs be added to your org under your existing Education Cloud entitlement.
  3. After the Account Executive confirms provisioning, refresh Setup > Company Information and verify that the PSLs now appear with Status = Enabled and a non-zero Total Licenses count.

Cause 2: The PSL is provisioned but not yet assigned to the administrator

  1. Navigate to Setup > Users and click the System Administrator user's name.
  2. In the Permission Set License Assignments related list, click Edit Assignments. Select CRM Analytics for Education Admin, then click Save.
  3. Return to the user detail page. In the Permission Set Assignments related list, click Edit Assignments. Select CRM Analytics for Education Admin, click Add, and click Save.
  4. Do not substitute the generic "CRM Analytics Template Administration Included" permission set — it does not satisfy the Education Analytics setup prerequisite.
  5. Also verify the Education Cloud Full Access PSL is assigned to the user.

Cause 3: All available licenses are already in use

  1. From Setup > Company Information, click CRM Analytics for Education Admin in the Permission Set Licenses list.
  2. Click View Users to identify users currently consuming the licenses.
  3. Either remove the assignment from a user who no longer needs it, or contact your Account Executive to add additional PSLs.

Step 2: Complete the Education Analytics setup

  1. After the PSL and permission set are assigned, navigate to Setup > Education Analytics and reload the setup checklist.

Confirm the fix: Reopen Setup > Education Analytics and verify that the "Assign Administrator Permissions" prerequisite displays as complete, and that you can proceed to the next step in the guided setup flow.
