Getting Started with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) in the Tableau Cloud Classroom

Please note this help article is intended for Tableau Cloud users in the academic space. This article is not intended for users of Tableau Cloud in a commercial setting.

To comply with Tableau security policies, the option to add students without multifactor identification has been removed. Students can be added to Tableau using a multifactor application, Google authentication, or your university SAML provider.

If your students have a phone or tablet device, you can add them using the Tableau MFA option. During the signup process, students will be required to set up their MFA account. Tableau Cloud accepts all major authentication applications including Google Authenticator and DUO.  If your students do not have access to a mobile device or tablet, you can set up the authentication process using Google or SAML.

Watch this video for a walkthrough demonstration on how to add students to a cloud side using multi factor authentication.
