Users with “Manage Dashboards in Public Folders” Permission Cannot Edit Dashboards Created by Another User

Date de publication: Jun 16, 2026
Description

Customers may observe that users who have dashboard permissions, such as “Manage Dashboards in Public Folders” are still unable to edit dashboards that were originally created by another user.

Typically, these users can:

  • View dashboards
  • Refresh dashboards
  • Move dashboards between folders
  • Manage folder access

The “Edit” option may remain available however user will not be able to save the changes made to the dashboard that they didn't create.

Résolution

Salesforce currently restricts editing of dashboards to:

  • The dashboard owner, or
  • Users who create a cloned copy of the dashboard.

Workarounds:

Transfer Dashboard Ownership : Change the dashboard running user/owner to the intended editor.

Clone the Dashboard : Users can clone the dashboard and make edits on the cloned copy.

Recreate the Dashboard : Manually recreate the dashboard under the required user account.

This behavior is working as designed at this time.
