Managed Omni Gateway Not Available in Child Business Group

Publish Date: Jun 3, 2026
Description
Issue/Symptom:
  • The Managed Omni Gateway option is not available or the "Add Managed Omni Gateway" button is missing when navigating to a child Business Group in Anypoint Platform
  • The following error may appear in the Business Group Settings page:
"Could not get 'small' Managed Gateways usage. Could not get 'large' Managed Gateways usage."
  • Managed Omni Gateway is visible/available at the Root Org level but not in child Business Groups
  • If attempting to access Managed Omni Gateway, you will see the following:

Root Cause:
Managed Omni Gateway resources are provisioned at the Root Organization level but are not automatically inherited by child Business Groups. Each level of the Business Group hierarchy must have resources explicitly allocated before the child Business Group can access them.
Environment:
  • Anypoint Platform
  • Any org with a nested Business Group hierarchy
  • Subscription includes Small and/or Large Managed Omni Gateway entitlements
Resolution
Resources must be allocated top-down through each level of the Business Group hierarchy. For example, given the following structure:

Root Org
  └── Parent Business Group
└── Child Business Group ← target BG

The Root Org Administrator must perform the following steps in order:

Step 1 — Verify entitlements at Root Org:
  1. Log into Anypoint Platform
  2. Navigate to Access Management → Business Groups → [Root Org] → Settings
  3. Scroll down to Resources and confirm Small/Large Managed Omni Gateway sliders are present and show available units (e.g., 0/2)
  4. If sliders are not visible, contact your MuleSoft Account Executive to verify your subscription includes Managed Omni Gateway entitlements

Step 2 — Allocate top-down through each BG level:

Repeat the following steps at each level of the hierarchy, starting from the Root Org down to the target Business Group:

  1. Navigate to Access Management → Business Groups
  2. Select the Business Group → Settings tab → scroll to Resources
  3. Adjust the Small Managed Omni Gateway and/or Large Managed Omni Gateway sliders to allocate at least 1 unit
  4. Click Save Changes
  5. Proceed to the next child Business Group and repeat

Step 3 — Verify Managed Omni Gateway is now available:
  1. Navigate to Runtimes → Flex Gateways
  2. Ensure you are in the correct Business Group context (top right corner)
  3. Confirm the Managed Omni Gateway tab is now visible and available
Important Notes:
  • Resources allocated to a child BG are subtracted from the parent's pool — they cannot be shared simultaneously across multiple BGs
  • If only 1 unit is available at the Root Org, only one BG in the entire hierarchy can use Managed Omni Gateway at a time
  • To enable Managed Omni Gateway across multiple Business Groups simultaneously, additional entitlements must be purchased — contact your MuleSoft Account Executive
  • The "Not running" status on Self-Managed Flex Gateways is unrelated to Managed Omni Gateway availability

Additional Resources
  • Resources allocated to a child BG are subtracted from the parent's pool — they cannot be shared simultaneously across multiple BGs
  • If only 1 unit is available at the Root Org, only one BG in the entire hierarchy can use Managed Omni Gateway at a time
  • To enable Managed Omni Gateway across multiple Business Groups simultaneously, additional entitlements must be provisioned/purchased — account team will need to be engaged
  • The "Not running" status on Self-Managed Flex Gateways is unrelated to Managed Omni Gateway availability
