Unable to Delete a Process Builder Version in Salesforce

In Salesforce, Process Builder (a legacy automation tool that has been superseded by Salesforce Flow) allows administrators to create multiple versions of a process. When attempting to delete a Process Builder version, Salesforce may display the message:

"The latest flow version can't be deleted."

Alternatively, the Delete option may not be available.

This behavior occurs because Salesforce enforces version management rules to prevent accidental deletion of the current or active automation process. This article explains the required conditions for deletion and provides the steps to delete eligible Process Builder versions.

Conditions Required to Delete a Process Builder Version

A Process Builder version can only be deleted when both of the following conditions are met:

  1. The version is Inactive.

  2. The version is not the latest version of the process.

If either condition is not satisfied, Salesforce prevents the version from being deleted.

How to Delete an Older Inactive Version

  1. Navigate to Setup | Process Automation | Process Builder.

  2. Open the process to view its version history.

  3. Locate the version you want to delete.

  4. Verify that the version is Inactive and not the latest version.

  5. Click Delete and confirm the action.

If You Need to Delete the Latest Version

If the version you want to remove is the latest version, Salesforce does not allow it to be deleted directly.

As a workaround:

  1. Create a new version of the process (a minor change is sufficient).

  2. Save the new version so it becomes the latest version.

  3. Confirm the original version is now Inactive and no longer the latest.

  4. Delete the older version using the steps above.

Note: Process Builder is a legacy automation tool that has been superseded by Salesforce Flow. Salesforce recommends migrating existing Process Builder automations to Flow for enhanced functionality, improved performance, and long-term platform support.
