Admin Insights Data Pipeline (AIDP) and all supporting infrastructure is planning to migrate from Tableau's native AWS environment (TabAWS) to Salesforce Hyperforce in next couple of weeks - as part of Tableau's broader strategic alignment with Salesforce's secure, scalable cloud platform. The migration is designed for zero customer-facing downtime. Admin Insights will continue refreshing on its daily schedule without interruption. Customers will not experience service outages.

What is Admin Insights?

Admin Insights is a Tableau Cloud-exclusive observability feature that provides site administrators with pre-built observability into their deployment. It includes: 9 curated data sources like TS Users, TS Events, Site Content, Viz Load Times, Job performance etc, Pre-built starter workbook visualizing user activity, content usage, license consumption, performance trends, stale data, Daily automated refresh via the Admin Insights Data Pipeline (AIDP). Currently, AIDP runs in Tableau's native AWS infrastructure

What's Changing?

The entire Admin Insights backend infrastructure - including data processing pipelines, storage, compute clusters, and publishing services - is being redeployed to Salesforce Hyperforce aka Falcon. The migration will occur region-by-region. Each of the following AWS regions will have independent Hyperforce deployments:

 - Americas: us-west-2, us-east-1, ca-central-1

 - Europe: eu-west-1, eu-west-2, eu-central-1, eu-central-2

 - APAC: ap-southeast-1, ap-southeast-2, ap-southeast-3, ap-northeast-1, ap-northeast-2, ap-south-2

Benefits of the Migration

  1. Enhanced Security and Compliance: Hyperforce provides built-in support for data residency requirements, encryption at rest and in transit, and meets stringent regulatory compliance standards (SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, HIPAA). This positions Tableau Cloud for customers in regulated industries.

  2. Improved Scalability: Hyperforce's elastic infrastructure enables better handling of data volume growth and provides headroom for future Admin Insights enhancements, including less than hour refresh cadence

  3. Operational Resilience: Hyperforce's multi-AZ architecture and automated failover capabilities improve service availability and reduce risk of prolonged outages.

No Customer Impact nor any action required by Admins

  1. The migration is designed for zero customer-facing downtime. Admin Insights will continue refreshing on its daily schedule without interruption. Customers will not experience service outages.

  2. No changes to Admin Insights workbooks, data sources, or dashboards

  3. No reconfiguration of permissions or project settings

  4. No re-authentication or API token updates

  5. No changes to data retention policies (90 days for Standard, 365 days for Enterprise/Tableau+)

  6. Potential Minor Delays: While the migration is designed to be transparent, customers may occasionally observe:

    • Data refresh timing variations: A delay of up to 1-2 hours in Admin Insights data source refresh completion times during the cutover window for their region.
    • Temporary performance variability: Slightly longer query times against Admin Insights data sources immediately following migration, stabilizing within 24 hours.
