Starting in Spring '26, the KnowledgeUser add-on license has been removed from the SvcCloudEmpHubEmpUsrAddOn (Employee/Requestor add-on for HR Service). This change is expected behavior resulting from a bug fix—the KnowledgeUser license was inadvertently included in this add-on during the Spring '26 release and has now been corrected.
This article explains why the change was made, clarifies which add-ons are affected, and provides steps for administrators to restore Knowledge article read access for Unified Employee License (UEL) employees.
The KnowledgeUser addon was removed from the employee-facing addon (SvcCloudEmpHubEmpUsrAddOn) because:
Knowledge creation and management is not part of the intended functionality for HR Service employee users.
The addon was designed for employees who submit HR requests, not for users who author or manage knowledge articles.
Including this addon caused unintended Knowledge license proliferation for customers who never purchased a Knowledge subscription.
Note: Employees can still read Knowledge articles without the KnowledgeUser addon by enabling the appropriate profile permissions.
If your Unified Employee License (UEL) based employees need to view Knowledge articles, follow these steps:
From Setup, go to Users → Profiles.
Locate the Unified Employee profile.
Clone the profile (the base profile cannot be edited directly):
Click the profile name.
Click Clone.
Give the cloned profile a descriptive name (for example, "Unified Employee - Custom").
In the cloned profile, enable these permissions:
Allow View Knowledge (under System Permissions).
Knowledge Base Permissions: Read & View All Records (under Object Settings).
Assign the cloned profile to your employees.
Log in as a test employee user.
Navigate to the Knowledge component in your HR Service experience.
Confirm that articles are visible and accessible.
The KnowledgeUser addon was removed only from specific addons. Verify which addon applies to your organization:
| Add-On Name | KnowledgeUser Status |
|---|---|
| SvcCloudEmpHubEmpUsrAddOn (Employee/Requestor) | Removed. Read access is available via the profile permissions described above for UEL employees. |
| SvcCloudEmpHubHrStdAddOn (Fulfiller/Agent) | Removed (KnowledgeUser-1 retained as a standalone addon in the Fulfiller SKU).* |
* Note: KnowledgeUser-1 is removed from SvcCloudEmpHubHrStdAddOn but remains available as a standalone addon in the fulfiller section because HR agents need to manage Knowledge articles.
