Error: The project owner hasn't added you to the project repository as a collaborator.

Publish Date: Jun 24, 2026
Description
Users may receive an error when trying to access the pipeline or other items in DevOps Center stating that the project owner has not added them to the project repository as a collaborator. This can occur even when the user reports having admin access in the GitHub repository.
Resolution

Follow the steps below in order until the issue is resolved:
Step 1 — Verify GitHub User Permissions
Confirm which GitHub user was used to authenticate GitHub from the DevOps Center managed package. Ensure that this user has a minimum of Write access to the specific repository — organization-level admin access alone is not sufficient.

Step 2 — Re-authenticate in DevOps Center
Ask the affected user to re-authenticate themselves in DevOps Center, then test access to the pipeline again.

Step 3 — Reset GitHub Authentication via Named Credentials (Resolves most cases)
         1. Go to Setup > Named Credentials.
         2. Locate the DevOps Center GitHub Named Credential.
         3. Under External Data User Authentications, find and delete the affected user's record.
         4. Reload DevOps Center.
         5. When prompted, sign back in to GitHub.
         6. Re-test pipeline access.

Step 4 — Upgrade DevOps Center
If the issue persists after completing Step 3, upgrade the DevOps Center managed package to the latest available version and then repeat the authentication steps above.

Additional Resources

NOTE:

Step 3 (resetting Named Credentials) is the most common resolution for authentication failures in DevOps Center.

Ensure the GitHub user being authenticated has repository-level Write access, not just organization-level permissions.
