Record Types are not available in Professional Edition

Starting with the Salesforce Summer '22 release, Record Types are not included in the base Salesforce Professional Edition license. To use Record Types in a Professional Edition org, the Record Types add-on must be purchased and enabled.
Record Types allow administrators to offer different business processes, picklist values, and page layouts to different users. For example, an organization might use Record Types to distinguish between different types of support cases or sales opportunities.
Record Types are available without an add-on in the following Salesforce editions:
  • Enterprise Edition
  • Unlimited Edition
  • Performance Edition
  • Developer Edition
If a Professional Edition customer attempts to create or use Record Types without the add-on, the Record Types option may not be visible in Setup or may not function as expected.

How to Get Record Types in Professional Edition

If you are on a Salesforce Professional Edition org and need access to Record Types, contact your Salesforce Account Team to request the Record Types add-on. The add-on must be enabled by a Salesforce representative.

Verifying Your Edition

To confirm which Salesforce edition your org is running:
  1. Go to Setup.
  2. In the Quick Find box, type Company Information.
  3. Click Company Information.
  4. Review the Salesforce Edition field to confirm your current edition.

Note on Help Documentation

The Salesforce Help article on Creating Record Types will be updated to reflect the Professional Edition requirement. If you do not see Record Types listed as an option in your Professional Edition org Setup, this is the expected behavior.
