In Tableau Desktop, when constructing a highly customized dashboard layout where layout containers are deeply nested inside one another, the area designated for dropping new objects (drop zones) can become extremely narrow.
Symptoms:
Cause:
As the layout hierarchy grows more complex and container nesting deepens, the Tableau dashboard layout engine prioritizes the detection of higher-level tiled boundaries. Consequently, the physical drop zone coordinates for the innermost containers become heavily restricted on the editing canvas, making direct drag-and-drop placement nearly impossible.
To circumvent canvas-level drop zone restrictions caused by deep nesting, temporarily change the target container to a floating layout to insert the object.
