Tableau Dashboard Auto-Layout Does Not Work on Tablet in Salesforce Mobile App

Note: This article applies to Tableau dashboards embedded in Salesforce via the Tableau View Lightning Web Component. 

When embedding a Tableau dashboard into a Salesforce page, it may display correctly on a PC browser, but the auto-layout does not function as intended on a tablet (Salesforce mobile app).

Cause:

The Tableau dashboard layout is determined by whether both the width and height of the embedded area exceed 800 pixels.

  • If both width and height exceed 800px: The Desktop layout is applied.
  • If either is 800px or less: The Tablet layout is applied.

The size of Lightning Web Component determines which layout is triggered.

Lösung

To display the optimal layout for each device, perform the following settings.

Step 1: Configure device layouts in Tableau

  1. Open the target dashboard in Tableau Desktop or Web Edit in the browser.
  2. Right-click the Dashboard pane in the top-left corner and select Add Desktop Layout to adjust the layout for PC display. Please see more details in Preview and manually add device layouts. 
  3. Similarly, select Add Tablet Layout and adjust the layout for tablet devices. 
  4. After editing, publish it to Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server.

Step 2: Configure the PC component in Salesforce

  1. Open the Lightning App Builder in Salesforce and edit the target page.
  2. Set the Height of the Tableau View component to 800px or more (e.g., 850).
    • If the Tableau View component is in portrait orientation, ensure the width also exceeds 800px.
  3. Click the Activation button in the top right and set it as the default.
  4. In the Form Factor settings, select Desktop only and save.
  5. Click Save to apply.

Step 3: Configure the Tablet (Mobile App) component in Salesforce

  1. In the same Lightning App Builder, set the Height of the Tableau View component to less than 800px (e.g., 750).
    • If the Tableau View component is in landscape orientation, ensure the width does not exceed 800px.
  2. Click the Activation button in the top right and set it as the default.
  3. In the Form Factor settings, select Phone and save.
  4. Click Save to apply.

Note: Due to Salesforce specifications, the Phone layout assignment applies when viewing in the mobile app on a tablet or mobile phone.

Alternative: Create a separate tablet-specific dashboard

If it is difficult to adjust device layouts within the same dashboard, creating a separate Tableau dashboard for tablets and placing it on a dedicated Salesforce page is an effective alternative.
