Nonprofit Cloud: Non-Admin Users Cannot Access Program or Relationship Objects

Publiceringsdatum: Jul 14, 2026
Beskrivning

This article helps explain why non-admin users in Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud still lack access to Nonprofit objects after you grant object permissions through a custom profile or permission set.

Users typically report the following symptoms:

  • Being unable to open the Fundraising Operations section.

  • Not seeing the Program, ProgramCohort, or ProgramCohortMember objects.

  • Being unable to grant a custom-profile user access to the Contact Contact Relationship object and Party Role Relationship.

  • Not seeing relationship-related objects in ARC for a Matching Donation process.

  • Receiving a generic error with no message text when creating records such as Care Plan or Program Enrollment.

Access issues occur because Nonprofit Cloud objects require object-level access combined with required parent-object permissions and the corresponding feature permission set. Granting object access on the profile alone is not enough.

Complete the specific steps below based on the user's required capabilities.

How to Assign the Nonprofit Feature Permission Set

  1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box enter Permission Sets, then click Permission Sets.

  2. Select the Nonprofit permission set that matches the capability the user needs (for example, the Nonprofit Standard User permission set group for Programs, or the Fundraising Access permission set for the Fundraising Operations section).

  3. Click Manage Assignments.

  4. Click Add Assignment, select the user, then click Assign.

  5. Click Done.

How to Grant Parent Object Permissions

Nonprofit relationship and program objects fail silently when a required parent object lacks Read access.

  1. From Setup, click Object Manager.

  2. Confirm the user's profile or permission set has at minimum Read access on Program, ProgramCohort, ProgramCohortMember, and Program Enrollment (granting Read, Create, and Edit as needed on all four together).

  3. For relationship access, confirm Read access on Contact Contact Relationship, Party Role Relationship, and Contact.

  4. From Setup, in the Quick Find box enter Permission Sets.

  5. Open the assigned permission set and click Object Settings.

  6. Open each object, click Edit, and set Object Permissions to Read (and Create/Edit if the user creates records).

  7. Click Save.

How to Update Field-Level Security for Required Fields

When creating records such as Care Plan or Program Enrollment, a missing field permission returns a generic error.

  1. From Setup, click Object Manager, open the target object, and click Fields & Relationships.

  2. Open each required field and click Set Field-Level Security.

  3. Select Visible for the user's profile, then click Save.

  4. For gift-related records, confirm ObjectSourceCodeId and PaymentInstrumentId are set to Visible on the Gift Transaction object for the user's profile.

How to Assign Required Page Layouts

Page layouts must be assigned for users to see Nonprofit pages.

  1. From Setup, click Object Manager, open the object, and click Page Layouts.

  2. Click Page Layout Assignment.

  3. Click Edit Assignment.

  4. Assign the Nonprofit page layout for the object to each affected profile, then click Save.

How to Enable Features and Verify Provisioning

If Program, ProgramCohort, or relationship objects do not appear in Object Manager at all, the feature is not enabled.

  1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box enter Nonprofit, then confirm the People & Relationships and Program Management features are turned on.

  2. If Nonprofit Cloud does not appear in Setup despite an active contract, permission setup is not yet complete

  3. Confirm the issue is resolved by logging in as the affected non-admin user and opening the required record or section to verify access.
