Volunteers for Salesforce (V4S): cannot change text and graphic on Volunteers for Salesforce Job Listing page

This article helps you customize the text and image shown on the Volunteers for Salesforce (V4S) Job Listing page.

Customer Symptoms / Impact:

  • "I am unable to change the text and graphic on our GW_Volunteers__VolunteersJobListingFS."

  • "I find the label in Custom Labels and click on Edit, and I do not see where to change it."

Trigger Condition:

  • Attempting to edit a managed-package (V4S) custom label or Visualforce page directly. Because Volunteers for Salesforce is an installed managed package, its components are read-only: the standard Value/text field on managed custom labels is not editable, and the GW_Volunteers__VolunteersJobListingFS page markup cannot be modified in place.

  • This affects admin users who manage the public Volunteer Job Listing site (typically hosted on an Experience Cloud or Salesforce Sites page).

Prerequisites & Permissions:

  • Customize Application permission (to create translation overrides).

  • Manage Documents or edit access to update the CSS Document.

  • No specific Salesforce editions or feature flags are required beyond having the V4S managed package installed.

Lösung

Cause 1: You cannot edit the display text because it comes from a managed-package Custom Label.

  1. Confirm the label source: Go to Setup > Custom Labels and open the label you want to modify. Managed labels will show a namespace prefix (for example, GW_Volunteers) and the standard value will be read-only.

  2. Enable Translation Settings:

    • In Setup, enter Translation in the Quick Find box and select Translation Language Settings.

    • Confirm your target language is listed as Active.

    • If your language is not active, click Add, select your language, check the Active checkbox, and click Save.

  3. Open the Label: Go back to Setup > Custom Labels and open the specific label whose text you want to change.

  4. Create a Local Override: In the Translations related list at the bottom of the page, click New Local Translations/Overrides.

  5. Save the New Text: Set the Language to your organization's language, enter your preferred wording in the Translation Text field, and click Save. This override text will now replace the managed package's default value on the Volunteer Job Listing page.

Cause 2: You cannot change the page graphic because the image is styled by the managed CSS Document, not editable page markup.

  1. Access Documents: Go to the App Launcher and open the Files or Documents tab (if using Salesforce Classic, go directly to the Documents tab).

  2. Locate the CSS: Find the document named VolunteersJobListingCSS (VolunteersJobListingCSS.css) that is shipped with the Volunteers for Salesforce managed package.

  3. Update the CSS:

    • View and copy the existing document first to keep as a starting reference or backup.

    • Click Edit on the document, or upload your customized version by clicking Replace Document.

    • Ensure your custom CSS file sets the background/header image and text styling to your preference (e.g., adjust the background-image and color rules for the job listing container).

    • Click Save.

  4. Verify Hosting Configuration: If you host the Job Listing page inside an Experience Cloud site or a Salesforce Site, confirm that your site page correctly references your updated CSS document and that any referenced image URL is publicly accessible.

Verification

Confirm the issue is resolved by opening your public Volunteers for Salesforce Job Listing page (GW_Volunteers__VolunteersJobListingFS) in a private or incognito browser window to verify that the new text and image overrides are successfully rendering.
