Unable to select Model Provider when doing Connect to LLM step of AI in Tableau enablement process

Julkaisupäivä: Jul 17, 2026
Kuvaus

The user upgraded Tableau Server to version 2025.3.7 and found that the AI enablement option in site settings was greyed out. The user wanted to understand why the option could not be enabled and whether any Tableau Server prerequisites were required.

Enabling AI is supported in Tableau Server version 2025.3 and later. In 2025.3 only OpenAI is supported and the selection box is disabled because there are no other options.

Support for Azure OpenAI was added in 2026.2 and the ability to select a Model Provider becomes active.

Ratkaisu

1. Confirm that the signed-in account has the Tableau Server Administrator role before attempting to configure AI in Tableau site settings.
2. On Tableau Server 2025.3.7, use OpenAI as the LLM provider and enter the LLM provider API key during the Connect to LLM step. Refer to https://help.tableau.com/current/server/en-us/sites_gai_server.htm for the documented setup steps.
3. If you need the Model Provider picker to allow selection between OpenAI and Azure OpenAI, upgrade Tableau Server to version 2026.2 or newer.
