"Something went wrong. Please ask your Salesforce admin to contact Customer Support" error when amending or renewing assets

Date de publication: Jul 23, 2026
Description

This article addresses the generic error encountered during asset amendment or renewal operations in Revenue Cloud Transaction Management. The exact error messages include: "Something went wrong. Please ask your Salesforce admin to contact Customer Support" with a gackId, or "We couldn't process the renewal request because an error occurred. Contact Salesforce Support with Error ID." The underlying exception in logs may read: "Cannot invoke revenue.amendrenew.context.model.AssetStatePeriod.getQuantity() because assetStatePeriod is null." Trigger conditions include: initiating Amend or Renew from the Managed Asset Viewer on Account or Contract pages; assets missing required Asset State Period records; assets not originally created through order activation; or an incorrect Flow API name configured in Revenue Settings.

Résolution

Cause A: Incorrect Flow API Name in Revenue Settings

  1. Navigate to Setup > Revenue Settings > Set Up Flow for Managing Assets.
  2. Verify the Flow API Name field contains the exact API name of the active flow used for asset lifecycle operations. The default flow API name is "Amend_Renew_and_Cancel_Assets". Correct any mismatch between the referenced flow name and the actual flow deployed in the org.
  3. Navigate to Setup > Flows and confirm the referenced flow is active.
  4. Retry the Amend or Renew operation from the Managed Asset Viewer.

Cause B: Missing Asset State Period Records (Null AssetStatePeriod)

The internal error "Cannot invoke AssetStatePeriod.getQuantity() because assetStatePeriod is null" indicates the asset lacks required Asset State Period (ASP) records. This occurs when assets were migrated from another system or manually created without going through order activation.

  1. Navigate to the affected Account > Assets tab and select the asset producing the error.
  2. Check the Asset State Periods related list on the asset record. If no Asset State Period records exist, the asset was not created through the standard Revenue Cloud lifecycle.
  3. To resolve, create a new order through Agentforce Revenue Management for the affected products and activate it. This establishes the correct asset record with proper Asset State Period data.
  4. Use the newly created asset (with valid ASP records) for subsequent Amend, Renew, or Cancel operations.

Cause C: Missing Permissions or Order Settings

  1. Navigate to Setup > Order Settings and enable the following checkboxes:
  • Enable Reduction Orders
  • Enable Negative Quantity
  • Enable Zero Quantity

       2. Navigate to Setup > Permission Sets and confirm the user performing the operation has the following assigned:

  • For amendments: InitiateAmendment API permission set AND Sales Rep persona permissions
  • For renewals: InitiateRenewal API permission set AND Sales Rep persona permissions
  • For cancellations: InitiateCancellation API permission set

       3. Navigate to Setup > Users > select the affected user > Permission Set Assignments and verify the above are listed.

Cause D: Amendment Date Outside Asset Lifecycle Range

  1. Open the asset record and note the Start Date and End Date fields.
  2. Confirm the amendment or renewal date falls within the asset's active lifecycle period. For termed subscriptions, the operation date must be on or before the subscription end date.
  3. Adjust the transaction date accordingly and retry.
