Form Record Creation Fails in Field Service Mobile App with "Select a Valid Action Definition" Error

Fecha de publicación: Jul 28, 2026
Descripción

When a technician navigates to a Service Appointment in the Field Service Mobile app and selects "Checklist" under Work Order actions to create a checklist, a Dynamic Data Capture (DDC) Form record is triggered for creation via a flow. This step fails in the mobile app with the error "Select a valid Action Definition." The same action completes successfully when performed by a System Administrator or through the desktop FSL interface for system admin

Cause

The technician's user profile is missing the Manage Flows and Run Flows system permissions. The Form (DynamicDataCapture) object's Action Definition field must resolve to an active Flow, and without these permissions the mobile user cannot see or select a valid flow, causing the creation step to fail.

Solución
The technician's profile is missing required flow permissions. Follow the steps below to resolve:

  1. Go to Setup → Profiles (or the relevant Permission Set) for the affected technician user.
  2. Under App Permissions, enable Manage Flows and Run Flows.
  3. Save the profile/permission set changes.
  4. Have the technician log out of the Field Service Mobile app and log back in.
  5. Retry creating the checklist/Form record from the Service Appointment.

NOTE: Field-level Edit access on the Form object's Action Definition, Action Type, Name, Parent Record, Parent Record Type, and Status fields is also required, but is not sufficient on its own — the Manage Flows/Run Flows permissions are the confirmed fix.

Recursos adicionales

This issue reproduces both in the Field Service Mobile app and in the desktop UI when logged in as the affected technician, confirming it is a permissions issue rather than a mobile-app-specific defect.
