Hyper File Data Becomes Empty After Multiple CLI Batch Executions in Tableau Prep Builder

Publiceringsdatum: Aug 6, 2026
Beskrivning

In Tableau Prep Builder, after running multiple batch executions using the command line interface (CLI), the resulting output Hyper file (.hyper) may contain no data (empty file).

Environment

  • Tableau Prep Builder
  • Command Line Interface (CLI)
  • Hyper Output File

Cause

This behavior is likely caused by the processing load of a specific step in the flow depending heavily on the machine resource availability at the time of execution.
After the issue occurred while running the flow through Tableau Prep Command Line, the following error message was recorded in cli.log and hyperd.log:

[SQLSTATE:08006] The Hyper server closed the connection unexpectedly.
The server process may have been shut down or terminated before or while processing the request.
Lösning

To resolve this issue, use one or more of the following options to resolve the issue by reducing the processing load on the Hyper server during CLI batch execution.

Option 1: Execute CLI Batch in Sequence

Run the split flows sequentially using CLI batch execution and confirm that the final Hyper file generates the expected data.

Option 2: Use Intermediate Output Files

Output an intermediate file (such as a Hyper file) from the first flow and use it as the input source for the subsequent flow.

Option 3: Identify and Split the High-Load Step

Review the flow to identify steps with complex aggregations, joins, or heavy data transformations. Split the flow into multiple separate flows before or after the high-load processing step.
