Marketing Cloud supports sharing existing Marketing Cloud Engagement email sending domains with Marketing Cloud Next. This article addresses issues when using this Share Email Sending Domains with Marketing Cloud Next feature. You may see an error “Try again later. Still not working? Contact Salesforce Customer Support and ask for help with error 1005”.
If you want to share a current Marketing Cloud Engagement Domain with Marketing Cloud Next, you must use the Share Email Sending Domains with Marketing Cloud Next to create the domain Marketing Cloud Next.
To validate that this has been done correctly, use the instructions on this page to find the Authenticated Domains page in Setup and view the DNS records by clicking Show Details on your domain.
If this has been set up correctly, all the five inbound CNAME records should include the string "-um".
For example instead of "bounce.example.com" you would see "bounce-um.example.com".
If you do not see the inbound records with string "-um", then the domains were not created correctly. If the domain is in a Draft status, you can delete it and use Share Email Sending Domains with Marketing Cloud Next to create the domain properly. If the domain is in a Failed status, you will need to open a support case to resolve this issue.
First review the prior section (Confirm Correct Setup of Shared Authenticated Domain) to ensure the authenticated domain was created correctly for sharing between Marketing Cloud Engagement and Marketing Cloud Next. If you’ve confirmed it is correct, review the below.
If you have a delegated domain in Marketing Cloud Engagement, once you create the domain in Marketing Cloud Next using the Share Email Sending Domains with Marketing Cloud Next, you must complete the following:
From "Setup", in the Quick Find box, enter Authenticated Domains, and then select "Authenticated Domains".
Then use the arrow dropdown to find the "Show Details" page.
On that page, click the "Activate My Domain" button. Prior to clicking this button, you will not see any CNAME records if you query public DNS.
Clicking the "Activate My Domain" button for a delegated domain will allow the system to set up the 8 required CNAME records listed on the page.
After waiting some time, you will be able to query public DNS and see the 8 required CNAME records and the domain status will switch to Active.
If you have a self-hosted domain for Marketing Cloud Engagement, you must manually input the 8 CNAME records in your DNS provider.
Once the 8 CNAME records are visible in public DNS, you can click “Activate My Domain”.
