Create, Extend, and Clone Models

Create, extend, and clone semantic models.

Create a New Model

  1. Open the Command Palette and run Tableau Semantic: Create Model.
  2. Provide the model details.
    • Model and API name
    • Dataspace selection
    • Initial data objects
  3. Choose a folder location.

The extension creates a model folder with the selected configuration.

Extend an Existing Model

Create a model that inherits from a base model.

  1. Open the Command Palette and run Tableau Semantic: Extend Model.
  2. Select the base model to extend.
  3. Provide a name and API name for the new model.
  4. Choose a folder location.

The extension creates a model with a base/ folder containing the inherited model definition.

Clone a Model

Duplicate an existing model under a new name.

  1. Right-click model.json and choose Clone Model.
  2. Provide a new name and API name.
  3. Choose a folder location.

The extension creates an independent copy of the model.
