Change the Data Type of a Field to Currency

Change a numeric field, such as a measure, to a currency field. For example, you need to report account revenues in multiple currencies to accommodate international operations, but the account revenue is stored in a Number field. To get accurate reporting and enable conversions between currencies, you must use a currency field that’s linked to a Currency ISO Code field.

Required Editions

User Permissions Needed
To change the data type of a field to currency:

Permission set:

  • Data Cloud Architect

AND

Semantic Models object
  1. In Data Cloud, on the Semantic Layer tab, edit an existing model.
  2. In the Semantic Model Builder, select the data object that includes the field that you want to modify.
  3. Click the field you want to modify to open the properties panel.
  4. From the Data Type dropdown menu, select Currency and click Apply.
  5. In the Select Currency ISO Code window, select the data object field that specifies the Currency ISO Code.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Open the properties panel of the currency field, and verify that the data type is Currency and that the ISO Code field is linked.

After you change a field’s type to Currency, the record currency (Currency ISO Code field) is added to the model. When you convert another field to Currency, it will be automatically associated with the existing Currency ISO Code field.
