Create Semantic Models Using the Reports Metadata Bridge
Use the Reports Metadata Bridge to create a semantic layer from your Lightning Experience report types for use in Tableau Next workspaces.
The Reports Metadata Bridge is a guided flow that analyzes your most-used reports, creates the relevant objects in Data 360, and generates a valid semantic model in four steps:
- Selection of source reports
- Data lake object (DLO) creation
- Data model object (DMO) mapping
- Semantic model generation
The flow saves your progress, so you can stop and resume at any time.
At each step of the flow, you control the selection of reports and data objects, while the flow maps the data for you. The flow identifies data objects already mapped in Data 360 and doesn't duplicate them.
You can run the bridge as many times as needed. Each generation flow creates a unique semantic model.
With the generated semantic model, you can create metrics and visualizations and work with Tableau Agent in Tableau Next.
After the bridge generates a semantic model, add field and object descriptions to improve AI readiness.
Limitations
The Reports Metadata Bridge doesn't support these capabilities:
- Extracting data from dashboard queries or widget-level metadata.
- Extracting object descriptions into the generated semantic model.
- Generating granular field or object descriptions.
Use Tableau Semantic Models for Data Insights
After the bridge generates your semantic model, use your model to define, govern, and query all your business metrics. For more information on building and configuring semantic models in Tableau Next workspaces, see Tableau Semantics.
