To manage promotion requests: Tableau Next Administrator

Task Manager is available only in production. Promotions aren't manageable from a sandbox org.

All promotion approvers in your production org can see and act on promotion requests in Task Manager. Any approver can take over a promotion that another approver started. After you choose a promotion flow for a request, the other flow becomes unavailable for that request.

  1. In your Tablleau Next production org, open Task Manager.
Promotion requests are sorted by last update date. Requests in a terminal status—Completed, Rejected, or Failed—are filtered out after 90 days.
  2. Select the promotion request to review.
The request shows the assets the analyst wants to promote. Check any note the analyst added to the request. Instructions can include information such as which CSV file to upload or which users need access to the promoted assets.
  3. Review the promoted content.
    • If assets in the request share an API name with existing production assets but have a different asset ID, a warning appears. Review these assets carefully before approving as they can affect existing content in production.
    • If the Personal Org is on a newer Salesforce version than production, the promotion is blocked due to a schema mismatch. Resolve the version difference before proceeding.
  4. Approve or reject the request.
    • To approve, select Approve and continue to the next step.
    • To reject, select Reject. The request moves to Rejected status and no further action is needed.
  5. Choose a promotion flow.
    • Guided flow: Use the step-by-step promotion UI to migrate assets, upload any CSV files, and configure access. Available when the promoted content doesn't include Excel files or data connections. Continue to the next step.
    • Salesforce CLI: Download a manifest XML and deploy assets using the Salesforce CLI. Always available; required when promoted content includes Excel files or data connections. See Promote Tableau Next Assets to Production Using the Salesforce CLI.

Guided Flow Promotion

  1. Upload CSV files if prompted.
This step appears only when the promoted content includes data from CSV files. Upload files one at a time. Data streams are automatically mapped to the uploaded files if they're compatible. For a second or later promotion of the same content, choose to reuse the previously uploaded file or upload a new one.
  2. Configure access control.
Share the promoted assets with production users or adjust existing access. Admins automatically receive full access (create, read, update, delete, and share) to all newly promoted Tableau Next content. For assets promoted a second or later time, you receive access only if you don't already have it.
  3. Complete the promotion.
The promotion moves to Completed status in the Task Manager and assets can be accessed in production. Tableau Next removes your access to the promoted content in the Personal Org.

If the promotion fails, an error message appears with a list of assets that were partially promoted and remain in production. Delete these assets manually before retrying the promotion.
