          Interact with Dashboard Filters

In Tableau Next, dimensions are categorical or qualitative fields, such as names, dates, or geographical data. When you have a dashboard made of metrics and visualizations (vizzes), you can select one or more marks to filter the dashboard to show only the selected data. And when you select marks to filter data on the dasfhboard, the metrics and vizzes update to reflect the filtered data. For example, if your dashboard has multiple vizzes that show sales by category and region, you can click region to filter the dashboard to show data for only that region. Or you can select multiple categories and a region to filter the dashboard by using different dimensions at the same time.

          User Permissions Needed
To share metrics, dashboards, and vizzes in Slack: Tableau Next Consumer (Unmetered) or Tableau Next Consumer or Tableau Unmetered Self-Service Consumer or Tableau Next Self-Service Consumer permission set
          1. From the Tableau Next app, open a dashboard.
          2. Click to select a mark, such as text in a table or a bar on a chart. To select multiple marks, click and drag your cursor across the marks. Or press and hold the Ctrl key (Windows) or Command key (Mac), and then click multiple marks to select them.
          3. Select one of the highlighted marks again to clear the filters.

If a metric’s definition doesn’t contain the additional dimension that you’re using as a filter, then the metric doesn’t update. In addition, date-part filters and expression-based filters that are created in visualizations aren’t applied as filters to metrics in the dashboard. However, calculated fields that use expressions that are part of the definition in the semantic model are applied to metrics in the dashboard. Finally, when you open a metric that has dashboard filters applied, the dashboard filters are carried through to the metric detail page.
