Model Hypothetical Scenarios by Using Parameter Inputs
Enter text, numbers, or dates into parameter widgets for lookup and modeling
hypothetical scenarios. Dashboard calculations update instantly by using your custom values
rather than just existing data.
In this example, logistics managers can use manual date entries to perform "what-if"
analysis on project timelines without altering live data. By manually inputting hypothetical
ship date delays, the dashboard instantly recalculates downstream impacts and identifies
potential bottlenecks.
Create a parameter.
Parameter Name: Shipping Delay
Data Type: Date
Parameter Type: Single Value
Default Value: Today's date
Create a calculated field for the parameter with the logic for evaluating the
ship_date field.
Open the dashboard and add a parameter widget.
Click Add Parameter and select your parameter.
Save and preview your dashboard.
Test the parameter by using the date picker to view how date changes impact the
dashboard.
