Bind Component Attributes to Content Assets

Bind Component Attributes to Content Assets

Bind a component attribute to a content asset attribute, allowing the component to dynamically display the content asset's data. If you later update the content asset, the changes appear automatically on every component that uses it.

          Required Editions

          Available in: B2C Commerce

An administrator must enable the Enable Page Designer Data Binding feature switch. In Business Manager, click App Launcher App Launcher, and then select Administration | Global Preferences | Feature Switches.

Create the content asset you want to use before beginning. For more information, see Create a Content Asset in B2C Commerce. If the content asset is offline, Page Designer displays a warning that the content won't appear in the storefront.

          1. From the Page Designer visual editor, select a component.
The right pane opens, displaying the component's attributes.
          2. In the right pane, click Select Content Asset.
A content asset picker opens, displaying available content assets.
          3. Search for or browse to the content asset you want to use.
Filter content assets by name or ID.
          4. Select the content asset, then click Apply.
The content asset is now associated with the component.
          5. (Optional) Bind a component attribute to a content asset attribute.
            1. Click the data binding icon data binding icon. next to the component attribute.
            2. Select the content asset attribute from the dropdown menu.
The dropdown shows only attributes from the content asset's Content section that have a compatible type (text to text, string to string, or rich text to HTML) and contain content.
          6. Click Save to save your changes.

The component now displays content from the selected content asset. The attribute becomes read-only because its value comes from the content asset rather than manual entry.

          • To select a different content asset, click Change Selection.
          • To remove the binding and enter content manually, click Unassign Content Asset Attribute.
          • To edit the content asset itself, click the content asset name (shown as a link) in the right pane.
