Product Appearance on Product List and Search Pages

Use the Visual Merchandising workspace to show shoppers the most relevant products, promote specific items, and drive sales for seasonal merchandise. The workspace is the central location to manage products across product pages and search results. You can also customize the information and images shown on product cards, and select a locale to customize search results for shoppers.

The workspace offers two views for completing tasks—a grid view and a list view. Some tasks apply to only one context. For example, only in the Category context can you reposition products.

Expose Visual Merchandising in Business Manager

To use Visual Merchandising, make sure that your admin adds the Business Manager Visual Merchandising module to your role.

This procedure assumes that your admin has created one or more merchandiser roles.

          1. In Business Manager, click App Launcher and select Administration.
          2. Select Roles & Permissions, and then select the applicable role.
          3. In the Business Manager Modules tab, select which sites can view the module and click Apply.
          4. Find Visual Merchandising and select the read/write permissions for the role.
          5. Repeat these steps for each applicable role.

          Control Product Position in Categories

Control the order that products appear within a category to highlight the most relevant or promoted items.

          1. In Business Manager, click App Launcher, and then select Merchant Tools | site | Products and Catalogs | Visual Merchandising.
          2. Select Category from the context selector. (1)
          3. Change product card positions using one of these methods.
            • Drag the product card to the new position.
            • Enter a position number in the rank box. (2)
            • Select the checkbox in each product card and use Bulk Actions to move them to the top. (3)

Select a Faceout Color for a Product

Select which color variant is the initial primary image when shoppers see products on the product pages. For example, to make the blue sweater the default image among the available colors, select blue as the faceout color.

          1. In Business Manager, click App Launcher, and then select Merchant Tools | site | Products and Catalogs | Visual Merchandising.
          2. Select the pencil on the product card that you want to configure.
            The Faceout Image page opens.
          3. Select the color variant to use as the default image.

Assign or Unassign Products to Categories

Assign products to categories or update existing category assignments to control where products appear across your storefront.

          1. In Business Manager, click App Launcher, and then select Merchant Tools | site | Products and Catalogs | Visual Merchandising.
          2. From the Visual Merchandising workspace, select Category from the context dropdown list.
          3. Enter a category, and then select the appropriate result.
          4. Click Assign Products, and enter a term or phrase to see a list of products.
            1. Select all the products that you want to assign to the category.
            2. (Optional) For the selected product, enter a number for the category position.
          5. Assign the products.
Assign a product to a category
          6. Unassign a product from the dropdown arrow on the product card.

          7. To see the changes, rebuild the product search index.

Customize Product Card Information and Images

You can control the information and image that appears on each product card in the Visual Merchandising workspace. For example, you can show inventory and price on the cards to make informed decisions when merchandising. The product fields that you select are visible only to you. They don’t affect what your shoppers see on your storefront pages or in search results.

          1. In Business Manager, click App Launcher, and then select Merchant Tools | site | Products and Catalogs | Visual Merchandising.
          2. From the Visual Merchandising workspace, click Preferences.
          3. Select the Product Card Display tab.
          4. Update the image and add or remove any of the card’s product fields. The maximum number of fields visible on a card is five.
          5. Review your changes in the card preview.
The changes you make apply globally to all product cards in the workspace.

Create Boost and Bury Rules for Specific Locales

For international storefronts, you can create rules that prioritize (boost) or deprioritize (bury) products based on search terms for that locale. For example, to boost black pants for the Italian market, set Italy as the locale and enter pantaloni as the search term to promote these products to an Italian-speaking shopper. After you select a locale, product information displays in that language.

          1. In Business Manager, click App Launcher, and then select Merchant Tools | site | Site Preferences | Site Locales.
          2. Confirm that the right locales are selected.
          3. Go to Products and Catalogs | Visual Merchandising, and select Search Term from the context dropdown menu.
          4. In the locale selector, select the locale you want.
          5. Update the display settings — such as product name, images, or card attributes — for the selected locale.
          6. Repeat steps 3–5 for each additional locale as needed.
Locale settings show in Italian on the visual merchandising preferences page.
