Email Me When Someone
Be choosy about your personal email settings. Make selections that help you stay on top of important discussions without becoming overwhelmed by too much email.
| Option | Most Important | Recommendations and Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Follows me | If you’re not already following the person, you can click a link in the email to start following your new follower. | |
| Posts on my profile |
|
People approach you directly by posting questions or information on your profile, so make sure that you get notified. |
| Shares a post I made | This setting applies only to posts shared in Salesforce Classic. Posts shared in Lightning Experience don’t trigger an email notification. | |
| Likes or upvotes my post or comment | Upvote notifications are only available in orgs with upvote functionality enabled. | |
| Comments on my status or a change I made | This setting provides notification for actions taken on feed tracked changes. A feed tracked change is a change that you make on a Salesforce record that triggers an automatic post to your Chatter feed. Enabling this option notifies you when someone comments on the automatic post. | |
| Comments on a post on my profile | ||
| Comments after me | After you commented on an item, get notifications for comments after yours. | |
| Comments on an item I bookmarked | If you use bookmarks to track items that you’re interested in, get notified each time someone comments on that item. If you typically use likes to track items of interest, then this option is less important. | |
| Comments on an item I like |
|
When you like a post, you can get notifications for the comments that come in. You don't receive notifications after liking a comment. |
| Mentions me in a post |
|
People use mentions to ask for your input and draw you into discussions, so make sure that you get notified. |

| Sends me a message |
|
Get Sends me a message notifications when people send you private Chatter messages, including notifications about files that have been shared with you. |

Set Frequency for Personal Digest
| Option | Recommended | Recommendations and Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Daily |
|
Daily digests include the 50 latest posts from the previous day and the three latest comments on each post. |
| Weekly | Weekly digests include the 50 latest posts from the week and the three latest comments on each post. | |
| Limited | Limited means less than weekly. If you’re selective about the options in the “Email me when someone” section, try Limited to reduce your number of personal digests. |
Personal digests aren’t supported in communities.
Set Default Frequency for Groups I Join
Changing the default frequency for groups you join doesn’t affect the groups you already belong to.
| Option | Recommended | Recommendations and Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Email on every post | In communities, the Email on every post option is disabled after more than 10,000 members choose this setting for the group. All members who had this option selected are automatically switched to Daily digests. | |
| Daily digests | Daily digests include the 50 latest posts from the previous day and the three latest comments on each post. | |
| Weekly digests | Weekly digests include the 50 latest posts from the week and the three latest comments on each post. | |
| Limited |
|
Limited means less than weekly. Keep this default setting for all new groups. You can change to more frequent notifications for groups that you expect to monitor and contribute to actively. If your org has the Send announcement emails permission enabled, you still receive some Group emails. |
Note Users can choose the notification frequency after they start following a group, or an admin
can set the frequency for all users using Data Loader. For more information about using Data
Loader to change email frequency, see
Set the default group notification
email and its frequency via Data Loader.
