Assign Weights to Searchable Product Fields
Assign weights to searchable product fields such as Name, SKU, and Brand to prioritize high-value matches in search results. By assigning weights on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is the lowest and 10 is the highest, to searchable fields, you can control which fields carry the most influence in search rankings. By assigning weights to standard and custom searchable fields, product attributes, and category fields, you can influence ranking behavior without requiring backend engineering or AI intervention.
These weights tell the ranking algorithm which fields are most important. For example, if you weight the Name field at 8 and the Description field at 3, when calculating relevance scores, the algorithm gives more significance to a product whose name matches the search term than the product whose description matches the search term. This means a product whose name matches the search term is more likely to rank higher than a product where the term only appears in the description. Because this configuration changes how relevance scores are calculated, it’s recommended you test various weight combinations to achieve your desired ranking outcomes.
