Program the Datalogic Scanner for Point of Sale

Scan configuration barcodes from the Datalogic Product Reference Guide to change how the Magellan 1500i formats scans in Point of Sale (POS), or to reset the scanner.

Disable Label ID

Program the Magellan 1500i by scanning configuration barcodes from the Datalogic Product Reference Guide. Programming mode exits automatically after about 5 minutes of inactivity, and removing power mid-session discards changes.

By default, the Magellan 1500i can add a Label ID character (for example, #) to the front of every scanned barcode. POS treats the prefixed value as a different product and shows Product unavailable.

  1. In the POS app, disconnect the printer the scanner is attached to.
  2. Scan Enter/Exit Programming Mode from the Datalogic guide.
  3. Scan the Label ID = Disable barcode (command 020500) from the guide.
    On a factory-default 1500i, Label ID turns off. Skip this step unless scanned values arrive with a leading symbol.
  4. Scan Enter/Exit Programming Mode again to save.
  5. Power-cycle the printer with the scanner attached, then reconnect the printer in Device Manager.

Match the Keyboard Country to the iPad

In USB Keyboard (HID) mode, the Magellan 1500i defaults to US keyboard scan codes. If the iPad uses a different layout, such as French (AZERTY), numeric barcodes decode as accented characters or symbols instead of digits. In that case, lookups fail even though the scanner beeps normally.

  1. In the POS app, disconnect the printer the scanner is attached to.
  2. Scan Enter/Exit Programming Mode from the Datalogic guide.
  3. Scan the configuration barcode from the guide that matches the iPad's keyboard layout.

  4. Scan Enter/Exit Programming Mode again to save.
  5. Re-test by scanning a barcode in the POS app.

Label ID and keyboard country are independent settings. A scanner can have Label ID disabled but still use the wrong keyboard country, or the reverse. When scans come in wrong, check both settings.

Reset the Scanner

If scanning stops working after a reset, or the scanner must return to a known-good state, put the scanner back into the correct USB mode.

  1. In the POS app, disconnect the printer the scanner is attached to.
  2. With the scanner still connected to the printer USB port, scan Return to Factory Settings from the Product Reference Guide.
    A factory-reset 1500i displays as USB Keyboard HID, USA layout, Label ID disabled.
  3. Reapply the Label ID and keyboard country settings if needed.
  4. Power-cycle the printer with the scanner attached, then reconnect the printer in Device Manager.
