Set up Start Micronics CD3-1616 Cash Register

Configure the Star Micronics CD3–1616 Cash Register to function with with your receipt printer in Point of Sale CMS.

Prerequisites:

  • Modern POS App build: 7.1.0 or later
  • Platform Support: iPhone & iPad
  • Offline Support: yes

CMS Configuration

You will need to configure your cash drawer as "STAR" within our CMS. To do so, follow these steps:

Go to: Store Management -> Register -> {Your Store} -> {Your Register} -> Edit (Pencil) -> Cash Drawer:
  1. Under Cash Drawer -> Model: STAR
  2. Under Cash Drawer -> Connection Type: None
  3. Under Cash Drawer -> Cash Drawer Mode: Connected Cash Drawer

Ports and Cable

Printer cables aren't interchangeable, meaning you need to have the cable that came with the drawer. Also, make sure the cable is plugged into the correct device. Cables have a printer end and a drawer end.

  • The cash drawer is controlled through the printer and it has to be connected to the printer.
  • Connect the cash drawer with the printer as the app communicates with the drawer through the printer. The cable used on the printer side needs to be RJ11.

Troubleshooting

"Cash Drawer is already open. Please close and retry" or "Could not detect if the drawer opened"

These reasons can falsely prompt this error message in POS:

  • RJ11 Cable has been incorrectly installed. RJ11 Cable End labeled "Printer" must connect to the printer and the cable end labeled "Cash Drawer" must connect to the cash drawer.

  • In the CMS, the cash drawer model configured for the register doesn't match the cash drawer used.

    • Go to: Store Management -> Register -> {Your Store} -> {Your Register} -> Edit (Pencil).

    • Under Cash Drawer -> Model -> STAR.

  • Faulty cash drawer spring plunger. This mechanism detects if the drawer is closed and pushes it open. Attempt swapping with a cash drawer, which is known to work properly.
