PBL POS App Flow

PBL POS App Flow

The POS App Flow enhances in-store and remote checkout experiences by enabling seamless payments through QR codes and email links. It automates payment status checks, provides real-time order updates, and efficiently manages deposits, returns, and exchanges, boosting customer convenience and associate productivity.

In-Store Flow

Tap on the In-Store PBL deep link on the cart options menu. Customers can proceed with the payment. After a customer selects the payment, the app generates a URL with the order's information and shows it in a QR code. The app bgins to check for payment status.

Orders are marked as failed after the polling ends and the QR code expires. Additionally, the quantity of product items, previously decreased, reverts to their original quantity.

Customers scan the QR code with their phones and go to the payment web page. Here, the order's information is shown and there are multiple options to check out, depending on the user's locale. After the payment is submitted and approved, the app is notified and proceeds with checkout

If the payment verification is too long, the associate may cancel the order and restart it if needed by tapping Cancel. This is provided so the associate isn't stuck at the polling step. When aborted, if the customer has made any parallel payments, the amount is refunded automatically.

Remote Flow

Tap the Remote PBL deep link to start the remote flow. Customers are asked to enter the email address where they want to receive the payment link. The payment link is valid for up to 72 hours, and in that case, the order isn't marked as failed but stays as pending. The order stays ‌pending until the payment is completed. The payment status never changes to cancelled or failed.

The preGenerateOrderIdAndUseAsCartId flag must be enabled so the app can share the payment link with the original order ID.

After that, the associate can proceed and they are taken to the pending order confirmation layout once the order is confirmed. Associates may also re-send the payment link to an email address, which may be or may not be the same as the original one. One can go to the Order History and search for the order in question. In the order details screen, tap on Resend Payment Link to go to the pending order confirmation layout. There, customers are shown the same layout as they were when the order was confirmed.

Store associates may check the status of the order in this layout. In the order details screen, the order status is shown in the top summary. In the pending order layout, check the order status in real time. The app will check the order status. In case the payment is completed, customers are taken to the regular confirmation layout.

Deposits Flow

Deposits made with PBL (both in-store and remote) are supported for app builds 10.6.1 or greater via the multi-tender screen. Note, PBL can only be applied to the full deposit amount. If an order has already been paid for and is marked as completed, PBL can't be used. If the order status is changed to partial or any other status other than completed when the deposit is made, PBL can't be used.

After a product eligible for deposits (for example pickup or delivery) is added to the cart, tap the Multi-Tender deep link to access the multi-tender screen. This screen shows the required deposit amount. Scroll down to see options for making the deposit via in-store or remote PBL.

In-Store PBL

When you tap the in-store PBL, you are prompted to obtain shopper consent, as the POS app tokenizes the provided card. Note, if deposits are disabled, this prompt doesn’t appear, and the user can still proceed with checkout using PBL but is charged the full amount. After the shopper consents, a QR code will is displayed for the shopper to scan and complete the deposit on their end.

Remote PBL

When you tap Remote PBL, you are prompted to obtain shopper consent, as the POS app tokenizes the provided card. Note, if deposits are disabled, this prompt won't appear, and the user can still proceed with checkout using PBL but is charged the full amount. After the shopper consents, the customer provide their email, and they'll receive a link to complete the deposit on their end.

Tip
Tip

Before the payment is completed, the POS app shows a "Payment Approval Pending..." status. After the customer completes the payment, tap "Check Status" to check the payment status. If the payment is successful, the next screen shows a "Thank You" message confirming the payment approval.

Returns & Exchanges

Returns

When initiating a return, the POS app shows the original payment method used for the order. In the example shown, the order was made using a remote PBL. Note that for remote PBLs, the order status remains pending until payment is received. Returns won't be allowed until the order is fully paid. After the item to be returned is added to the cart and you tap "Return," the Return Method Selection window appears. From here, you can process the return via PBL.

Exchanges

For exchanges, no additional payment is required as it's an exchange. After completing the exchange process, the POS app displays the order confirmation page.
