Set Up and Manage Checkout for POS

Set up and manage the checkout process for your point of sale system. POS streamlines the checkout process with flexible tender options and efficient order management. The system supports reward cards, manual discounts, cash rounding, and check acceptance, helping associates complete transactions quickly. Retailers can configure taxes, deposits, employee discounts, gift cards and pay by link improving the customer experience at the point of sale.

  • Reward Card Support in POS
The POS app provides an option to purchase reward cards and redeem them as tender when placing an order. Purchasing a reward card is always associated with an order. If a customer’s purchase is more than a specific amount, a store associate can issue a reward card to the customer. Reward cards can be redeemed as a tender in any future purchases by the customer.
  • Configure Reward Card Support in POS
The POS app provides an option to purchase reward cards and redeem them as tender when placing an order. Configure reward card support in CMS setup.
  • Applying Manual Discounts & Price Corrections in POS App
Efficiently manage pricing adjustments and errors at checkout using manual discounts and price corrections in the POS app. Discounts can be applied, for instance, to damaged items. You can also set checks and manager approval rules to limit the changes that associates can make. Configure these settings in CMS before using them in the POS app.
  • Currency Rounding in the POS app
Currency rounding is the practice of rounding order totals to some monetary increment. Currency rounding is common in countries where rounding is legally required (like Canada, Australia, South Korea), and in other countries where smaller coins are phased out. Salesforce POS supports multiple rounding scenarios, including calculation-driven, cash, currency specific, and currency conversions. This support ensures smoother cash handling and accurate change, enhancing customer shopping experiences and precise transactions for accurate sales reporting. Configure cash rounding in CMS and review rounding behavior for sales, returns, and exchanges.
  • Tender Business and Personal Checks in the POS App
The POS app supports both personal and business checks as a tender type. For business checks, only the check amount and check number are required. For personal checks, users can turn on or disable verification. If verification is enabled, all fields—routing number, check number, account number, check amount, and license details—must be entered. If disabled, only the check number, check amount, and license details are required.
  • Complete Sale Transactions in POS
Point of Sale's POS app streamlines the checkout process, enabling flexible and efficient sales transactions. Associates can accept various payment methods, including single and multitender options, ensuring a seamless and quick customer experience. Configure available tender types in CMS before running transactions.
  • Configure Deposits at Item Level for POS
Customize deposit percentages within the POS app to meet specific business needs. Configure rules in CMS for different store types and define requirements based on product attributes or specify that fulfillment and shipping methods require full payment. Deposit details are clearly displayed in the POS app, including during returns and order edits, ensuring transparency and control over payment options.
  • POS Deposit Behavior
Sales associates can view deposit details, initiate multitender flows, and adjust orders with deposits. Deposits are automatically calculated based on product and tax rules. The deposit details can be found in the TLogs, so merchants can locate tokenized information and shopper references.
  • Configure Miscellaneous Tender in POS App
Point of Sale supports miscellaneous tender as a payment option in the POS app. This allows for more options if the more common or standard payment methods (like card, cash, check, finance, or PayPal) don't work for a merchant's specific payment types. Configure your store and register settings in CMS to support Mischellaneous Tenders.
  • Configure Employee Discounts in Point of Sale
POS lets employees enter their information to receive purchase discounts. To apply discounts, create a Customer rule that checks for an employee when you create a promotion. You can also configure employee validation using an SPI to validate employee information before applying promotions.
  • Enable Express Checkout in POS
Speed up customer checkouts with Express Checkout in the POS app. Configure express checkout with a deep link, by manually adding items, or a quantity picker. Associates can scan items directly into the cart, handle errors, and complete orders efficiently.
  • Gift Card Support in POS
Gift card support in the POS app enables store associates to handle gift card payments, purchases, and returns, streamlining the checkout process. Associates can easily apply gift card tenders, add value to cards, and redeem them for merchandise. With gift card returns, associates can issue refunds to new gift cards, offering customers a convenient option.
  • Set Up Card on File (CoF) in Point of Sale
Configure Card on File to process transactions by using a customer’s saved card. This feature supports Adyen payment terminals.
  • Set Item & Transaction Level Limits in the POS app
Control discounts applied in your POS app by setting maximum limits for items and transactions. These limits are checked against the order total after promotions. Require manager approval if the order total exceeds the set maximum discount amount or percentage.
  • Configure Multiple Tenders for Point of Sale
Accept payments using multiple credit cards and other tenders. To get started, configure supported tenders like cash, credit card, and gift card. You can also customize the display order of tenders in your app. By letting customers use multiple payment methods, they can pay with one or more of them at once. They can also choose the exact amount to be charged to a gift card.
  • Show Net Subtotal in Cart Summary and Receipts in POS
Show the net subtotal (subtotal after discounts) in the summary sections across the POS app and in paper and email receipts. With CMS settings, control the display text for net subtotal and subtotal and decide to hide or show subtotal and net subtotal in the POS app.
  • NRR Lowest Price Calculation in Point of Sale
Point of Sale calculates the lowest price based on these criteria: Store Historical Prices, Product Multi-Region Historical Prices, and Product Historical Prices. When the lowest price is found for a given number of days, that price is returned as the NRR lowest price.
  • Point of Sale Pay by Link (PBL) Overview
Point of Sale's POS app offers Pay by Link functionality with two distinct payment flows. The In-Store Payment flow lets customers pay right away by scanning a QR code with their phone. The Remote Payment flow lets customers get an email link to pay later. Both payment flows are supported by Adyen and Verifone payment gateway terminals.
  • Support Layaways & Deposits in POS App
POS app supports partial payments/deposits while creating an order. An order is eligible for partial payments if it has online items. Partial payments can be done in two ways in the POS app: creating a layaway order and adding a deposit amount to an order. Only online orders define Layaway orders, while deposits can be a mix of in-store and online orders. The deposit must be more than the total of items in-store. If the deposit is less than 25% of the total for online purchases, a warning is shown.
  • Laway and Deposit POS App Flow
Customers can reserve items with a down payment and adjust deposit amounts as needed. The app supports various tender types, including Pay by Link for compatible versions, enhancing payment flexibility.
  • Manage Tax Rates and Exemptions in POS App
Store managers can show and override taxes as needed, ensuring compliance with recent tax changes and special promotions. Customers can efficiently manage tax rates and exemptions with manager approval for overrides, and customize tax visibility and breakdowns in the Retail Cloud POS app.
  • Configure Line-Level Tax Display on Point of Sale Receipts
Display itemized taxes and regional fees directly beneath individual products on receipts. Configure which tax codes appear as line items to keep receipts clean and relevant.
  • Manage Tax During Checkout in the POS app
Store associates can use clear and flexible tools to handle tax during checkout, including tax indicators, breakdowns, exemptions, and overrides. This ensures accuracy and enhances customer service, providing a transparent and efficient shopping experience.
  • Configure Tax Exemptions for Point of Sale
Merchants can apply tax breaks to customer carts during checkout when valid proof is provided. This ensures customers receive the appropriate tax exemptions, while merchants can efficiently manage exemptions through the CMS, even in offline mode.
  • Requirements for Tiered Taxes for Point of Sale
POS App can support tiered taxes for different class of products both in online and offline mode
