A Solid Data Foundation: Data 360 and Informatica IDMC
Salesforce offers foundational data management capabilities with Data 360 and Informatica’s Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC). IDMC offers advanced data quality, lineage, governance, and Master Data Management (MDM) capabilities. Data 360 connects, harmonizes, and unifies data into unified profiles to provide a secure and trusted data foundation. You can use Data 360 and IDMC in parallel or individually at different stages in your project.
Working Together
Use IDMC and Data 360 for complementary data governance initiatives including metadata management, business glossary creation, and rule-based policies. The apps work together to connect to all of your data sources, regardless of type, to mine actionable information from your data. Enhance your AI use cases in Data 360 through Agentforce or through Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers. In IDMC use CLAIRE GPT, an AI tool that can perform analytics, provide data recommendations, and automate data tasks.
Use IDMC for data integration, classification, governance, data quality, and ongoing data maintenance. IDMC delivers trusted, cleansed data that Data 360 can activate for various use cases.
MDM and Unified Profiles
One key conceptual difference is that IDMC creates a golden record using MDM, while Data 360 creates unified profiles with Identity Resolution.
- MDM. Use IDMC to create and manage clean, enriched, and deduplicated master records that can act as a single source of truth for your organization. MDM is flexible and can handle various datasets from suppliers, locations, to countries, and cost centers.
- Unified Profiles. Use Identity Resolution rulesets in Data 360 to create unified profiles that links data. Unified profiles retain contact point values from all your sources, so you can build a holistic view without losing, consolidating, or overwriting the underlying data.
Because Data 360 isn’t an MDM system, its Identity Resolution capabilities don’t replace IDMC MDM functionality. Instead, it acts as a complement to your existing MDM solutions. Your MDM manages the master data, and unified profiles act as the activation layer that makes that data actionable.
Regardless of how you use them individually, together, Data 360 and IDMC create a complete toolset for every aspect of data management.
