Generate Research Reports with Deep Research

Generate Research Reports with Deep Research

Use Deep Research to generate comprehensive research reports directly in your Notebook AI workspace. Instead of querying multiple sources separately, submit a single research query. Notebook AI analyzes CRM records, uploaded documents, enterprise search results, and web sources, then delivers a report complete with findings, recommendations, and inline citations.

Required Editions

Deep Research runs in the background while you continue working. When your report is ready, Notebook AI adds it to the Resources panel, where it becomes a searchable source for future queries in your Notebook.

Run Deep Research

  1. In your Notebook AI workspace, make sure that you added relevant resources.
  2. In the chat section, enter your research query in detail. For example: What are the top three priorities based on our CRM data and their recent earnings report?
  3. Turn on Deep Research and Submit. Notebook AI generates a Research Plan listing the specific tasks and data sources to be analyzed.
  4. Optionally, customize the Research Plan before running it.
    1. To edit the plan, click Edit Plan. Deselect data sources that you want to exclude from the research, or enter a natural language prompt to change the direction of any of the research tasks and save progress.
    2. To choose a report template from the library or your own template in Markdown (.md) format, click Select Template.
  5. To start the analysis, click Run Research.
  6. Optionally, click Show Thinking to see what Notebook AI is retrieving and processing in real time.
  7. When the report is ready, click View to open it. The report includes a Table of Contents and inline citations linked to source documents.
  8. Download the report as a PDF, or ask follow-up questions to continue exploring the findings.

Considerations

  • Write detailed research queries. Include context, goals, and the specific insights that you need. For example, whether you’re preparing for a customer meeting, evaluating competitors, or analyzing deal risk.

  • Upload 5–15 documents that directly relate to your research topic. Include diverse sources such as internal documents or external research sources.

  • Use Show Thinking view to understand what Deep Research is retrieving and how it’s analyzing your sources to catch gaps early and refine your query if needed.
