Attribute Propagation for Pricing in Linear Relationships

Attribute Propagation for Pricing in Linear Relationships

Attribute Propagation allows attribute values from the target product instance to be propagated to the source product instance, enabling their use in pricing calculations. The user can define how propagation occurs at runtime by using a specific syntax when creating the product relationship.

set up attribute propagation

Possible Actions:

  • COPY: Copies attribute values from target line items to source line item when a line item relationship exists.
  • SUM: Sums attribute values from target line items to the source line item when a line item relationship exists.
  • REFER: References attribute values from target line items in Attribute Based Pricing for the source line item when a line item relationship exists, without copying the values.

Attribute Propagation Syntax

During design time, when you design the Relies On relationship, the attribute propagation rules are stored in Action Parameters. Here's the syntax to define attribute propagation.

Attribute Propagation Use Case Action Parameter Syntax to use
Copy attribute values when the attribute code is the same in both the source and target product instances. COPY(ATTR_CODE)
Copy attribute values when the attribute codes are different in the source and target product instances. COPY(SOURCE_ATTR_CODE:TARGET_ATTR_CODE)
Sum up attribute values when the attribute code is the same in both the source and target product instances. SUM(ATTR_CODE)
Sum up attribute values when the attribute codes are different in the source and target product instances. SUM(SOURCE_ATTR_CODE:TARGET_ATTR_CODE)
Refer attribute values for Pricing REFER(ATTR_CODE1, ATTR_CODE2)
Use a combination of action propagation actions as shown in the example. COPY(ATTR_CODE),SUM(SOURCE_ATTR_CODE;TARGET_ATTR_CODE),REFER(ATTR_CODE)
Example of action parameter

The product admin can define the attribute propagation logic for any product relationship that uses the Relies On type. Attribute propagation is based on the relationship between the source and target product instances, where attributes from the related (target) product are mapped to the source product's attributes.Attribute values are propagated according to the attribute propagation definitions and the EPC setup, assuming a Relies On relationship exists between the product instances.

  • Quote and Order Context: Attribute propagation occurs in the context of both Quotes and Orders, based on the respective Relies On relationship records.
  • Latest Relationship Instance: Attributes are always propagated from the latest instance of the relationship.

Attribute Propagation Setup

To activate Attribute Propagation, add a new pricing plan step that triggers attribute propagation.

Note
Note Note:If Attribute-Based Pricing (ABP) is also configured, ensure the attribute propagation step is placed before any ABP pricing plan steps. This sequence is necessary, so that attributes are propagated from the target to the source before ABP can utilize the propagated values.

If you're creating a linear relationship between products and setting up attribute propagation for pricing within these relationships, you must set up the attribute propagation in the pricing plan first. For more details on creating a linear relationship between products, see Create a Linear Relationship.

Once the pricing plan is configured, run the Generate EPC Compile Data job to finalize the setup.
