Key Terms in Promotions
Browse through this collection of terms, key objects, and key concepts. This collection is designed to give Salesforce admins, sales reps, and developers a clear and consistent understanding of promotions concepts and helps them navigate the Promotions in Revenue Cloud for Communications landscape.
- Product-Based Promotion
- Applies a discount that is specifically tied to one or more individual products, based on the product selling model.
- Category-Based Promotion
- Applies a discount or offer to all products within a specific category. It simplifies the process by allowing a single promotion to be applied to a group of related items, rather than requiring individual promotions for each product. For example, a promotion offering 20% off all laptop accessories. This discount is automatically applied to any product that's been added under the "Laptop Accessories" category, such as a mouse and keyboard.
- Bundle Product Promotion
- Provides a discount on a root product, child product, or both. The promotions specified for child products are available only when they are added as a part of the bundle.
- For example, a sales rep adds a Quad Play Bundle to a customer's order with a 10% discount on the root product. The system has a promotion linked to this specific bundle: Buy a Quad Play bundle, get 10% off on a router. When the rep adds a router, the system applies the 10% discount to the router, without any manual effort from the sales rep.
- Automatic Promotion
- The system applies these promotions without any action required by the sales reps. They are designed to streamline the sales process.
- Manual Promotion
- It's a discount that a sales rep must actively apply. It can be applied only if it’s associated with an active coupon code. These promotions often serve as a tool for sales reps to close a deal or are used to target campaigns to specific customer segments. For example, a sales rep at a retail store has access to an In-Store Exclusive 15% discount in their system. The rep can use this at their discretion to persuade a customer to buy a laptop.
- Stacked Promotions
- When multiple promotions are applied to a product, all the promotions are calculated independently and then aggregated. For example, see Evaluation Method: Stacked Promotion.
- First Eligible Promotion
- When multiple promotions are applied to a product, the first eligible promotion based on promotion priority is applied. For example, see Evaluation Method: First Eligible Promotion.
- Pricing Source
- The source of pricing to use during amendment and renewal of an asset. Types of pricing sources:
- List Price - Standard or base price for a product.
- Last Transaction Price - Final price of the last transaction that’s applied to the asset.
