            Configure Pre-Arbitration Rules for Mastercard Transaction Disputes

            When a disputed Mastercard transaction isn’t resolved during the second presentment, you can initiate pre-arbitration or arbitration based on the reason code that’s associated with the transaction. Mastercom mandates that disputed transactions with specific reason codes must undergo pre-arbitration before they can proceed to arbitration. For example, pre-arbitration is required where the dispute is associated with reason codes, such as 4808, 4837, and 4853.

            To create, update, and delete decision matrices and matrix versions: Rule Engine Designer
            To use decision matrices in Business Rules Engine: Rule Engine Designer
            1. Create a standard decision matrix named Is Pre-Arbitration Required For Reason Code. See Create a Standard Decision Matrix Manually.
              This matrix determines if disputed transactions must undergo pre-arbitration based on a combination of their reason code and reason code description.
            2. Create three columns with these settings.

            3. Add these sample rows and values.

              4853 Cardholder Disputes Checked
              4870 Chip Liability Shift Not checked
            4. Save your changes.
            5. Activate the decision matrix version.
              After creating the decision matrix, reference it from the FSCTransactionDisputeManagementomniscriptCaptureInfoToCreateDisputeItmArbtCase Omniscript that’s used to collect the details required for initiating pre-arbitration.
