Create a Cross-Object Field History Graph

Create a graph to show how records relate to each other.

Enable the Field History Tracking for objects.

  1. In Setup, find and select Cross-Object Field History Graphs.
  2. Click New Graph.
  3. Under Default Templates, select New, and then click Create Graph.
  4. Specify the Graph Properties.
    1. Enter a label and a unique developer name. When you add the Cross-Object Field History component to a record page, the label displays in the list of available graphs.
      The developer name can only contain underscores and alphanumeric characters. It must be unique, begin with a letter, not include spaces, not end with an underscore, and not contain two consecutive underscores.
    2. Save the graph.
  5. Click the root node on the graph and complete the root node fields on the Properties tab.
  6. Select an Object, for example, Account.
  7. Add up to 5 child nodes to the relationship graph: Below the root node, click the plus icon.
  8. You can add up to 4 levels of relationship for a node.
  9. Complete the child node fields on the Properties tab.
    1. Select an Object, for example, Contact.
    2. Select the One-to-many relationship type and then select a Parent Node Lookup Field. The lookup field is a field from the node object (for example, Contact) that points to the parent node object (for example, Account).
      One-to-many relationship type is a lookup relationship that links two objects together. In many-to-many relationship type, each record of one object can be linked to multiple records from another object.
    3. Or, select Many-to-many relationship type and then select:
      • Junction Object: When modeling a many-to-many relationship, select a junction object to connect the two objects you want to relate to each other, for example, Contact.
      • Parent Node Lookup Field: A field from the junction object that points to the parent node object, for example, Account Name.
      • Object Lookup Field: Select a field from the junction object that points to this node’s object, for example, Contact.
  10. To configure how the node is shown on the record page, click the Display tab,enter a label (for example, Contacts), and save your changes.
    When the Many-to-Many relationship type is selected, the node object and junction object fields appear in the sequence specified in the Cross-Object Field History Graph builder.
